Wundermoosen releases a free feature update to MoosePad for Mac OS X: The update is available through WunderMoosen Software Update/MooseUpdate or as free download.
MoosePad is a modern replacement for Apple's Note Pad and Scrapbook. MoosePad 10.3 is a great utility for anyone who may reuse large amounts of text, or store an inventory of product serial numbers and software activation codes. Memos are stored in a database using strong encryption and each database can be password protected. Extensive Drag-Drop editing is supported.
Whats Changed?
This is a major release, however, an even bigger one is still in the works.
- This version adds some major new page linking features. There are several different ways to link pages and databases. Some of the advanced linking options require a database upgrade.
- This version allows for updating the database for advanced capability. This is done from the File->Database->Optimize function. Upgraded databases are still backwards compatible with by the previous versions of MoosePad, however, If an older version updated the databases (viewing is not a problem), The older version of MoosePad will not know to update the extended indexes provided by the upgrade, so the database should be re-optimized in this release or beyond for proper operation.
- The database upgrade is a safe operation, however, we do recommend backing up your database first as good policy.
- Added option to remember open databases on close and reopen them on launch.
- Added additional navigate (stack) and up and down arrows to the toolbar to allow navigation through linked pages. Also see Page Menu.
- Update documentation for new features.
- Changed TOC button to disclosure triangle. Would have done this before but for an apparent corrupt nib.
As of Version 10.3:
This release is built as a Universal Binary. It is ready for the new Intel Macs as well as current PPC Macs.
Can now import both CardFiler and QuickFile databases. Please read the documentation for how to do this.
Changed and Improved Find.
- Find is accessible in the toolbar and you can select to find on a page or globally.
- Improved global search with "String Search", "All Words" and "Any Word" ability. Set default in Preferences.
- Changes too numerous to detail.
Changed the way a page title can be edited. See the tutorial section of the documentation.
Moved Format menu to top level menu bar.
Added Spacing, Link, List and Table options to the Text->Format Menu. These options are only available in Mac OS X 10.4 and will appear grayed out and disabled in Mac OS X 10.3.
Added ability to alternately display Table of Contents in the same window as the NotePad. You can toggle between TOC and Pad. This is now the default TOC method and it is very easy to use.
Fixed a long standing issue with the "Services" Menu items and lifted the restriction of having to option the default database to open on launch. Service clippings always go to the default database anyway. You will need to log off and back on for services to work correctly.
Added separate Pad Window and Tear Off Windows transparency levels in Preferences.
This build fixes a problem with the find on page which was introduced in 10.2.5 build 3A22 and several other typos, etc.
Fixed many cosmetic issues.
User can select if they want page turning animation and sounds. Defaults are animation but no sound.
In this release MoosePad had 3 looks.
- Classic
- Modern (default)
- Brushed Metal
- MoosePad defaults to the Modern appearance. Although this is the default, you can change in the Appearance Preferences.
Improved handling of embedded objects such as QuickTime movies.
Fix some broken outlets that cause some menu items to be disabled when they should be enabled.
Updated documentation and added much additional information on new features.
